Admittedly this is a very marmite wine, but if you’re a fan of challenging flavours then this is worth a try. Produced from the thick-skinned and late-ripening Aglianico grape, grown on the appellation’s famous volcanic soils on the slopes of Mount Vulture, the wines here are absolutely unique in character. There’s an amazing scent of thyme, mint and seaweed to this example. In the mouth it’s concentrated, tarry and saline, with sour cherry fruit and lots of woody grip which finishes dry but is balanced by good acidity.
